Huckabee, scary dude

Published by billymac under government, politics, scary

GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee made a controversial statement last night regarding the Pakistan/Bhutto assassination (please see full ABCNews.com article here):

…have an immediate, very clear monitoring of our border, and particularly to make sure, if there’s any unusual activity of Pakistanis coming into the country.  We just need to be very very thorough in looking at every aspect of our own security internally

This small minded fear-mongering is one of the core problems in our great country.  Did we declare war on white trash or rednecks after the Oklahoma City bombing or the church burnings in the South?  Hell no.  Most of these GOP war and fear mongers prey on uncertainty and manipulate the media to paint this picture of risk and danger at every turn.  The ironic thing is, much of the risk was created by our clandestine activities around the globe and has manifested itself in blowback.  I’m more frightened of what our own politicians will do than Islamic Extremists.  I think I’m going to go outside and puke now.

Huckabee, idiot

Spinning so hard I want to retch

Published by billymac under Bush, politics, scary

Bush = asshole.  I suppose more accurately, the Bush Administration = assholes.  Because I don’t think Bush is actually in control of his own administration (i.e., maybe he’s not the decidererererer after all).  As reported last week on CNN, the Bush Administration has been ramping up the rhetoric and hate speech vis-a-vis Iran, even with the knowledge that the Iranian nuke program was scrapped 4 years ago.  An excerpt from the article:

In October, the president told reporters, “If you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be preventing [Iran] from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.” The apparent gap between what U.S. intelligence officials knew in August and Bush’s later warnings drew sharp criticism from Sen. Joseph Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a Democratic presidential candidate, who called Bush’s explanation unbelievable.

“I refuse to believe that,” Biden said Tuesday. “If that’s true, he has the most incompetent staff in modern American history, and he’s one of the most incompetent presidents in modern American history.”

He’s not incompetent, he’s a corrupt son of a bitch.  I would rather have the last guy, you know, the one who couldn’t keep his dick in his pants, than the slap in the face corruption of this guy.  And to think they wanted to impeach party-boy for fucking what’s her face?  Here’s the thing, this is pretty-much ”in your face” corruption, how bad is the stuff we don’t know about?

Clinton, she scares me a little

Published by billymac under 2008 elections, politics, scary

I’ll be honest, Hillary Clinton scares me a little, sometimes when she lowers her icy cold gaze in my direction (even if it’s just a picture on the Internet or on TV), I squirt a little pee in my pants.  It seems (to me) like she’s an angry angry broad who’s working extra hard not to be an angry angry broad.  This is understandable, she is married to Bill “hey baby!” Clinton.

Now on to the issues.  Check out the issues section on her campaign site here.  At first glance, there is some reasonable stuff there.  However, where’s the beef?  Most of this is rhetoric with little substance or solutions, and all I hear is the ‘ka-ching, ka-ching” of my tax rate increasing to pay for this stuff.

Look at this picture… shivers are running up my spine now, and I may have to change my spider-man underoos.

Hillary!

My f-ing stomach hurts

Published by billymac under funny, gross, sarcasm, scary

I’ve been nursing a robo-stomach-virus for almost a week now.  I will spare you the gory details, yeah right, I was pissing out of my ass for 4 straight days people!  I finally mustered the strength to stop feeling sorry for myself and get my (bruised) ass back to work.  About that time, the ass-pissing turned into an unbelievable string of ass-gas (there must be some research describing how the absence of stuff in the digestive track will be replaced with a shit-load of gas).

Now I’m back at work.  Don’t you just hate it when somebody walks into your office 30 seconds after you rip a disgusting fart that steams up the windows?  You pretend there is no smell, your visitor pretends there is no smell, but it’s still fucking there, burning your nostrils.

Move along people, nothing to see here.

Edjumacation

Published by billymac under education, scary

I’ve thought more and more about the state of education in this country (no pun intended) lately as my children creep toward school age.  And my thoughts often migrate to a particular event several years ago.  My wife and I were on a house-hunting trip in North Georgia as we were offered jobs in the northern Atlanta suburbs.  While we were at a restaurant having breakfast one morning we were sitting beside a father with his two teen-age sons.  Not that we were eavesdropping (we were) but here is how the conversation went down:

Son #1:  I can make a lot of money driving a truck.

Son #2:  How much?

Father:  grunt

Son #1: I can make 100 bucks a day, and if I work 10 days that will be…. (counting on fingers, 1, 2, 3, …) I dunno, a lot of money!

Father:  grunt

Me to my wife:  Our kids will go to the same school as those idiots

My wife:  Shit

The Wiggles creep me out

Published by billymac under media, pics, scary

As a parent of young children, I have been exposed to a number of children’s shows lately, most of which suck… they suck very much.  The worst of the bunch however is The Wiggles.  This show comes to us from Australia.  Now my frame of reference for all things Aussie comes from bad movies in the 80’s (I’m looking at you Paul Hogan) and my years of playing rugby (which typically revolves around a very physical sport, a lot of beer, and the nonsense that comes with those two things).  None of these Australian influences have prepared me for the creepiness of The Wiggles.  The first time I saw my daughter watching the show, I thought I was looking at 4 pederasts singing sugary songs behind evil fake smiles.  Look at this picture, there is a lot of pain and anger behind those fake smiles:

Wiggles Creepy!

If I see The Wiggles on TV, I either distract my kids and change the channel or knock-them out with some form of ether or shot to the neck like they used to do to B.A. Baracus on the A-Team to get him on planes (”crazy fool!”).

Iran as a threat, et tu Cheney?

As I discussed a couple of days ago in my post “Iran as a threat… et tu Blair”the current administration and the military industrial complex (MIC) is ramping up its pre-war rhetoric which has an end-game of aggressive action against Iran.  Cheney has been the latest to deliver the solemn news and a firm warning to Iran as reported by CNN.com:

“Our country, and the entire international community, cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its grandest ambitions,” Cheney said in a speech to the Washington Institute for Near East Studies.

He said Iran’s efforts to pursue technology that would allow them to build a nuclear weapon are obvious and that “the regime continues to practice delay and deceit in an obvious effort to buy time.”

If Iran continues on its current course, Cheney said the U.S. and other nations are “prepared to impose serious consequences.” The vice president made no specific reference to military action.

“We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

Cheney’s words seemed to only escalate the U.S. rhetoric against Iran over the past several days, including President Bush’s warning that a nuclear Iran could lead to World War III.

Please take a moment to let those strong words from Cheney and Bush sink in.  Is this the legacy that Bush is looking for in his lame duck years to capstone his Presidency?  World War III?  I can’t imagine why else they (the Bush administration) are pushing this agenda.  The Bush administration must really have no respect for the collective intelligence of the American people if they feel they can continue to deceive and manipulate information toward a goal of further war.  They must be completely convinced the American people are idiots and won’t recognize the pattern.  This is pathetic and it makes me sick to my stomach.

The illusion of security - part 2

Published by billymac under government, insane, scary

It gets worse and worse, the TSA confirmed today that MOST fake bombs made it through screeners at LAX and Chicago’s O’Hare airports over the past couple of years.  According to a CNN.com article:

Screeners failed to find most of the fake bombs smuggled by plainclothes investigators through checkpoints at two major airports from late 2005 until last fall, the Transportation Security Administration said Thursday.

Investigators successfully smuggled 75 percent of the fake bombs through checkpoints at Los Angeles International Airport in California, and 60 percent through Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in Illinois, according to a report obtained by USA Today. In tests at California’s San Francisco International Airport, where a private company conducts inspections, 20 percent of the contraband made it through security.

I work in an industry where anything below a 99% success rate is a major problem, and I just can’t wrap my head around how ineffective the TSA really is.  To put this in perspective, LAX screener were effective 25% of the time while screeners at O’Hare were effective 40% of the time.  It is interesting that a private company had a much greater success rate at 20% failure/80% success.  It is clear that the federal government is over-matched, and privatisation is something that should be seriously looked at.  I’m not sure if everybody remembers but prior to 9/11 the screeners were private and the TSA was brought in with the wonderful Patriot Act and the Dept of Total Incompetence Homeland Security because they could “do a better job”.  Great job dipshits.

Why Disney Sucks

Published by billymac under corporate, funny, insane, scary

I recently returned from a week-long conference/seminar hosted in one of the Disney resort hotels and have come to the conclusion that Disney really sucks.  Now there are typically two schools of thought regarding the previous statement, 1) guys like me who will say “no shit”, and 2) Soccer Mom’s who will be appalled that I dare criticize “the mouse”.  The conference I attended was top notch, the suckiness I’m referring to is in regards to Disney in general.  As I mentioned previously, I stayed at one of the resort hotels, I won’t mention it by name but it is named after a sea-faring mammal that can perform tricks and people seem to like.   I have laid out a few examples below to prove my point.

The first example is pretty much a no-brainer but worth mentioning, Disney exists to part your money from your person.  We all know this but it is worthwhile to cover the basics.

  • Hotel room was in the upper $300’s per night after taxes, more taxes, hidden taxes, fees, more fees, hidden fees, and mouse pedicure fees
  • I made the mistake of ordering breakfast room-service the first morning I was there.  Breakfast consisted of A bagel, bowl of corn flakes, toast, OJ, and hot coco (from a pouch).  Total cost, $47, before tip.
  • Parking fee $16 per night… at first blush this might not seem excessive, but Disney owns half of Florida, with that much space there is no premium for parking, just a captive audience.
  • Internet fee, $15 per day, with the high room costs, why isn’t this baked in?  And the speed was slightly better than dial-up, as an example, youtube clips couldn’t stream.
  • Mixed drink at the lobby bar, $12

People are too friendly.  Why is this a problem you might ask?  Because it is fake friendly, and there is an underlying “fuck you” lurking beneath the surface of most interactions.  After the third “Have a magical day” spoken from a pimply faced punk, who was dying to say it, I was annoyed.

It is 95 degrees with 100% humidity in October.

The room wasn’t spectacular, I’ve been in hotels all over the world, and for this price the room wasn’t great.

  • I actually had to request a room change for the first time in memory after I found a cockroach the size of baby’s head.
  • In the new room, the AC was broken.  I didn’t feel like moving again so I dealt with it.
  • The bed was shaped like a U and you sunk into the middle after an hour.
  • On the positive side, the view was really good and I had two balconies.  I had a view of the Epcot “ball” and could see the nightly fireworks from my balcony.

It seemed that Orlando and the state were in on the fleecing, there are two main approaches to the airport and both are covered with multiple tolls to and from the Disney lair.  In fact the most direct route to Disney has a higher toll fee than the longer route.
