The Propaganda Machine Rolls on…

Say it isn’t so, our bullshit government has engaged in propaganda activity directly on US soil? The New York Times had a very interesting article yesterday titled: “Behind TV Analysts, Pentagon’s Hidden Hand“. No, the hidden hand wasn’t up Bush’s mostly retarded ass as I had originally guessed, it is actually in your pocket and mine, as well as up the skirts of school girls (the Pentagon is a dirty dirty place full of creepy pederasts). The article is a great read and goes into detail how the Bush Administration uses former military officials, who are now mostly tied up with the private sector defense industry, as embedded puppets at the major TV news outlets. Big surprise, FoxNews had the highest number of these ass-clowns followed by NBC, CNN, CBS and ABC. One warning, the article is fucking 11 pages long, most of us don’t have the attention span or time to dedicate to an article that long, but it was worth the extra minutes for me.

We all know suspect that the information flowing from the Bush Administration is bullshit, but now there is solid evidence of an information tampering program initiated by the assholes in charge of the country. They brought these “independent” analysts in and held private briefings with them with the exact message points the administration wanted to get out and then deployed them to the networks. And this shit works.

Hidden behind that appearance of objectivity, though, is a Pentagon information apparatus that has used those analysts in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the administration’s wartime performance, an examination by The New York Times has found.

The effort, which began with the buildup to the Iraq war and continues to this day, has sought to exploit ideological and military allegiances, and also a powerful financial dynamic: Most of the analysts have ties to military contractors vested in the very war policies they are asked to assess on air.

I really fucking hate this administration. And, I’m not sure if our government is realistically fixable.

Pentagon is for shitting

The Question Mark

Published by billymac under BS, insane, media, video

I saw a headline on CNN.com today that reminded me of a Daily Show segment called “The Question Mark” which originally aired in the Fall of 2006. First-off, this segment, as are many of the Daily Show segments, was genius, it covers the use of a question mark by Fox News, CNN, and other main-stream media shriekers of bullshit as a ridiculous ploy to raise alarm without any consequences of being unethical. Today’s headline on the CNN.com front page was “Is your money safe in the bank?”, click here for full article. Are these assholes so desperate for ratings that they would try to drum up a basic fear from the depression era? In the article CNN.com reports:

The FDIC maintains that not one depositor has lost a single cent of insured funds since 1934 as a result of a bank failure

Experts say you shouldn’t panic.

Experts may say don’t panic, but CNN says “RUN FOR THE HILLS, HIDE YOUR MONEY IN THE MATTRESS, AND RAPE YOUR CATS…. THE BANKS ARE FAILING!!!”. What a bunch of asshole, fuck-nut, douchebags. Please check out the segment below, you won’t be disappointed.

Media bias in elections? No way!

Published by billymac under 2008 elections, media, politics

A recent study by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press shows a distinct media bias that effectively narrows the field of front-runners as a result, full article reported here on CBSnews.com.  First off, “Project for Excellence in Journalism”, this is a tall order in our country (read horseshit), where if it ain’t sensational it ain’t news.  But the results are expected, the strong media bias has narrowed the field to the top two Democrat front-runners (Clinton and Obama) and 3 Republicans (Giuliani, McCain, and Romney, all toolbags).  The biggest take-aways from this report are these facts:

They argue that this election could represent a generational struggle in both parties, but that early media coverage failed to capture that fundamental tension.

“If American politics is changing,” the report concluded, “the style and approach of the American press does not appear to be changing with it.”

The internet communities have been harping about this for years, the main-stream media in this country is out of touch, and surprise surprise the main-stream media in this country are large corporations who don’t want a politics shift.  I don’t see a solution except to start watching BBCnews, hell Americans might actually start to hear news from other places.

The Wiggles creep me out

Published by billymac under media, pics, scary

As a parent of young children, I have been exposed to a number of children’s shows lately, most of which suck… they suck very much.  The worst of the bunch however is The Wiggles.  This show comes to us from Australia.  Now my frame of reference for all things Aussie comes from bad movies in the 80’s (I’m looking at you Paul Hogan) and my years of playing rugby (which typically revolves around a very physical sport, a lot of beer, and the nonsense that comes with those two things).  None of these Australian influences have prepared me for the creepiness of The Wiggles.  The first time I saw my daughter watching the show, I thought I was looking at 4 pederasts singing sugary songs behind evil fake smiles.  Look at this picture, there is a lot of pain and anger behind those fake smiles:

Wiggles Creepy!

If I see The Wiggles on TV, I either distract my kids and change the channel or knock-them out with some form of ether or shot to the neck like they used to do to B.A. Baracus on the A-Team to get him on planes (”crazy fool!”).

Is Coulter crazy or is it an act - Part 2

Published by billymac under ethics, media, politics, religious right

The mainstream media (ABCnews in this case) is starting to report the same sentiments from my original post about Ann Coulter.  In this particular article on ABCnews entitled Ann Coulter: Marketing Genius?, they had the following things to say:

“I think [her comments] are highly calculated,” said Liam O’Brien, an expert in media criticism and pop culture at Quinnipiac University. “I’m not sure she knows what trigger on which verbal gun she is going to pull at any given moment, but I think at any particular time, she has three or four of these things that are controversial and inflammatory enough to get national press notice above and beyond whatever the topic is of her book or the talk show.”

Coincidence or not, a few of Coulter’s book releases have, in fact, coincided with a remark that has ignited a media frenzy.

Big surprise, unfortunately, her base of extreme right wing morons and village idiots will still buy her books.  Let’s hope the Coulter haters wake up and stop giving her the attention and stop buying her books.  People need to start expressing their opinions with their wallets.

Fox News Reporter Slip-up

Published by billymac under funny, media

I love watching Fox News and other media type folks slip up, especially when the slip-up is Freudian in nature.  I wonder what was on her mind this morning?  The best part about this clip is the reaction of the field reporter.
