So let’s recap. Change must mean Biden as VP (35 year Senator), Clinton as Sec of State (huuuuge political insider and cold bitch), Geithner as Sec of Treasury (20 years in Treasury or Fed… yikes!), Gates to remain as Sec of Defense (HOLY FUCKING SHIT!), Emanuel as Chief of Staff (long time democrat with Chicago ties), and now Volcker to head Economic Recovery Panel (former chairman of the Federal Reserve, aren’t they part of the problem?).
Way to go rockstar, that looks like some positive change…. fucking politicians.

Let me paint you a picture. It is November 7th, 2000. I am in Switzerland in my apartment watching one of the only two English TV channels available, International CNN, the other was BBC News. Technically it was November 8th as it was around 2 AM, but who’s splitting pubic hairs? Switzerland (or at least the area I was in) is 6 hours ahead of the US Eastern time-zone so it was around 10PM Eastern in the US. Some frilly music and a full screen graphic fade onto the screen after a commercial of a naked broad enticing young German’s to call their “party line” completes. The graphic says something like “Gore will be the 43rd US President”. Sigh. Ok, I can go to sleep now, at least we didn’t elect that ass-bag Bush Jr. I wake up in the morning, scratch my balls a little, flip on the TV and another graphic is fading up with even worse music. This one says “Bush will be the 43rd US President”. WTF? I get to work and the Swiss-German guys are all shaking their heads and taking turns walking into the American shared office, laughing, and saying “you Americans are so fucking stupid to elect that idiot”. So today is bittersweet. Finally an end to the epically worst Presidential run our nation will ever see, and a beginning of what? Dunno, neither of the guys that will probably win will be able to do anything but clean up shit for the next 4 years. We should change the title from President to Janitor or Jis-mopper. Anyway, I’ll be watching the tube again tonight, this time in Georgia, just waiting for the MSM to fuck it up again.

I’m actually referring to the Republicans not the economy in this instance, although it appears that desperate times for many of us on on the horizon. The Republicans are indeed desperate. In the past couple of weeks they have abandoned any quiet dirty campaigning (at least they pretended they were being quiet) and have resorted to Rove-like FUD attacks (FUD=Fear Uncertainty and Doubt). They are starting to throw the kitchen sink at em. Let’s recap:
- Barrack “Hussein” Obama, lame attempt to make people think he is an Arab, terrorist, or Muslim by referring to him this way. Campbell Brown calls this race-baiting.
- He’s a “pal” of the terrorists, more FUD trying to make a closer connection with Bill Ayers
- Drugs. all of sudden past drug use becomes an issue (even though Obama openly wrote about it). I love this one, fucking Republicans didn’t seem to mind Bush snorting some lines.
- Obama too risky. This I also believe, but no more risky than McCain, that guy seems a) unstable as hell, and b) one extra long night of sleep away from being dead.
So why do the Republicans resort to these negative lowest common denominator attacks? Because it works. How else do you think that Bush was elected not once but twice? It is all about the FUD.

Shoot yourself twice in the upper body while being evicted. This happened to 90 year old Addie Polk of Akron Ohio, and Fannie Mae forgave her loan and signed her house over to her (click here for full article). Something tells me that this strategy will have limited returns for pretty much everybody else who decides to use this method. Congress and “the people” can only use one symbol per crisis, everybody else in this situation is fucked.
In a similar vein, I watched a portion of Meet the Press today and Tom Brokaw stated this: (full transcript here)
… let me introduce a moment of heresy into the political campaign. Isn’t it also time for these candidates to reflect just what Peggy was saying and say to the American people, “You’ve got a role in this, too. You’ve got to step up.” We’re not going to make gain without some pain here in the next year, and, in fact, the American people have been part of the problem that we have right now. A lot of them took loans that they should—ought not to have taken. Credit card debt is very high. And they want to turn a blind eye to things like entitlements, Medicare and how we’re going to pay for it.
I had some immediate conflicting reactions to this statement. First, it was a bit of a sting as I have spent many years of my life living above my means as well as many many Americans, currently, my family has paid down most of our debt and have taken great pains over the last couple of years to eliminate credit spending all together. But the statement rings true. My second reaction was making this statement (as a member of the MSM and a puppet of our government) is like a drug dealer complaining about the junkies. Our government has taken great pains to encourage spending both by average Joe and by themselves with their incredible deficit spending, forcing an unnaturally low interest rate, giving incentives to sub-prime mortgage houses, and by giving two fucking ridiculous tax rebates and encouraged people not to pay down debt or save but to buy buy buy. How many of you sat down with a used car salesman mortgage broker to obtain financing to purchase a house and were told: “you’ve been cleared for XXXX” where XXXX was waaaaaaay more than you knew you could realistically afford.
It fucking makes me sick.

I had an uneasy feeling this morning when I woke up. I felt sick to my stomach, a little crampy, and then a wave of pain hit me from my insides. It felt like I really needed to fart, and when I say fart, I mean open the valve like a propane tank. THEN, I realized it really wasn’t the world’s loudest, nastiest, and disgusting fart. It was the bailout bill. And that uneasy feeling is the realization that the Senate will pass it today, they most likely won’t be left with their pants down (i.e., they wouldn’t put it to a vote unless they are positive that they have the votes to pass it, unlike the idiot House).
So we’re back to being fucked. It was good to think that for a day or two, our representatives understood and listened to their angry constituents.

Another failed bank, well not technically failed by the FDIC standards, but by my standards… fail. Wachovia’s assets and losses will be absorbed by Citigroup in a deal that was brokered by the FDIC and a bunch of meddling kids, er, I mean meddling government types. Do statements like this bother you (full article here):
The move, which was made following consultation with President Bush, the Federal Reserve and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, was deemed necessary by regulators to avoid having “serious adverse effects on economic conditions and financial stability.”
“This morning’s decision was made under extraordinary circumstances with significant consultation among the regulators and Treasury,” FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair said in a statement.
All I heard was blah blah blah, let’s not wait for the bailout to pass before we start poking and prodding. We’re in for a hell of a ride people.

Ron Paul continues to be the voice of reason in a sea of choppy bullshit in Washington. He wrote an open letter about the bailout plan that sums up my exact thoughts on this mess. I actually wrote my congressman for the first time in my life about this (the bailout), I didn’t even receive a form-letter automatic response. Here’s an excerpt:
The issue boils down to this: do we care about freedom? Do we care about responsibility and accountability? Do we care that our government and media have been bought and paid for? Do we care that average Americans are about to be looted in order to subsidize the fattest of cats on Wall Street and in government? Do we care?
Yes I do care, the question is do enough other people care enough to do something about it.

I haven’t watched a minute of the Democratic National Convention. The primary reason is I already know the substance of all the speeches.
Blah Blah Blah, look at me, look at me, vote for me, I can change shit. Give me power.
Followed by.
Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, I’m going to bring out a dying man now to exploit him even though he is full of shit too. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.
Bottom line, the government in this country is broken, and the politicians, lobbyists, MIC, and media have won. We don’t have a democracy, we have an oligarchy. I’m a true cynic now. The only small ray of hope in this go-around was that Ron Paul got some attention for saying the right things and drumming up some minimal support. But he didn’t really have an honest shot at making a difference, the deck is stacked against him or any other real reformist candidate.
Is there an answer to this mess?

The political news desk here at Total Diatribe has exclusive and breaking news regarding Obama’s VP candidate. He is a relative newcomer to the political scene, but has the potential to make a huge splash, his name is “Shutthafuckup And Pickalready”. Although Shutthafuckup has little experience he does have a family history in politics as he is the first cousin of “Ilieuntil You Catchme”, and a lifelong best friend to “I’mfullofshit And Aliar” who has been seen everywhere around Washington these days.

I had to read this quote regarding the Russia/Georgia conflict three times and pinch my left nut to believe I wasn’t dreaming. Who the fuck is he kidding?
Bullying and intimidation are not acceptable ways to conduct foreign policy in the 21st century
